Well, after some unnecessarily long travel (thanks American Airlines) we’ve arrived in Mexico City!

Between catching up on work and unpacking there hasn’t been time to explore much, but we have managed to have two delicious dinners and some great Tlacoyos and tacos. We have a few good street stalls dangerously close by 😉

I’ve had a lot of questions about what we are doing here and about my job. The long and short of it is that it’s been a dream of mine to spend an extended amount of time in Mexico City for a while. So, when the opportunity came up, I asked my boss (and her boss, and her boss…) if I could work here for a few months. Much to my surprise, and I think the surprise of a few others in the office, I got full approval. Just to be transparent, my work isn’t paying for any part of the move, but they are allowing me to work remotely. We have an office in Mexico City, so the next step was reaching out to them. They were more than welcoming. So here we are!

I have been working from our apartment in Roma Norte for the last two days. On Monday, I start in the office in Polanco. I am excited and terrified! Everyone has been so helpful, but my Spanish still not great and the thought of my first day in the office here is a little intimidating, eek! With that said, I am so grateful I get the chance to give it a try! I will report back after my first day.

Another question I have been getting a lot of is about our dog, Puck. He came with us! And is already a natural down here. The city is extremely dog friendly. We are loving that Puck can come to restaurants and cafes and really, most places in general. There are so many dogs here, it’s wonderful. I’ve even been told there is a dog-friendly pilates studio just down the block from our place.

As for the travel with him, I will do a full post about it, but it was so much easier than I had anticipated. We got a certificate of health from our vet a few days before leaving. I was nervous that there would be a hiccup somewhere, but honestly, everyone looked at his paper work for a minute, glanced at puck in his soft-sided carrier, and signed off with no questions asked.  Puck is my best bud, but he is definitely not a service animal, so we paid a fee and he flew on board the airplane with us in a carrier under the seat in front of me (service animals are free and can sit on your lap.) It was a total breeze!

Well, that’s my update for now! We’re going to spend the next couple days getting out of our neighborhood and enjoying the beautiful weather.  We have Chapultepec Park on the agenda as well as a visit to Centro Historico which will, no doubt, include few bars and restaurants. Have a great weekend!
